Trudy is a member of the Department for Education, Children and Young People Executive Board, holding the position of Deputy Secretary since 2016. In her current role she leads and oversees the work of all Schools, Colleges, Child and Family Centres (CFLCs), and the range of services that wrap around and support children and young people:

Commencing teaching in 1981 Trudy has dedicated over 43 years to education and learners, with esteemed experience as a teacher, principal, and senior educational leader in Tasmania. In driving improvement Trudy draws upon strong practice knowledge and understanding of educational leadership, also demonstrating a depth of currency and understanding of the operations and improvement aspirations of all schools and CFLCs in Tasmania. She has extensive experience in change leadership and leading system, school and learner improvement with her commitment to collaboration and consultation widely acknowledged, also too, leading from both head and heart.
A recipient of a Hardie Fellowship Trudy studied systemic educational leadership at Harvard University, with her exceptional merit recognised in 2021 with the bestowing of the ACEL Tasmania Eminent Educator Award for Outstanding Leadership of Education in Tasmania.
Trudy also actively participates as the Department’s representative in the National Redress Scheme, acknowledging the immeasurable hurt and harm for victims/survivors and the need for institutional accountability. Trudy is the mother of two adult children, and a very devoted grandmother.
