Leadership insights from a true trailblazer of Australian politics
The Hon. Julie Bishop began her esteemed public career as the Member for Curtin in 1998. Ms Bishop was the first woman to serve as Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and the first woman to be Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, a position she held from 2007 to 2018. She has recently become the Chancellor of the ANU, spoken out about issues affecting women in the public sector, and even honoured with her own Barbie doll!

Looking back on a decades-long career in public service
Ginna Webster began her career in public service at just 19 and retired in 2024 from her role as Secretary of the Department of Justice. She was previously the inaugural Secretary of the Department of Communities Tasmania. In her four decades of service to the public sector, she has served in various roles, including justice, child and youth services, and community services at the most senior level.
With a passion for leadership, particularly in the public sector, Ginna will reflect on her life in public service, the most important lessons learned, and her advice for future leaders.
