Fred Alale AM is a senior professional in the public service with over 20 years of experience in policy, project management, system-wide improvement, and financial systems and processes. He is a Chartered Accountant and has worked in both the public and private sectors in Australia and the UK, including with Big 4 management consulting firms EY, KPMG, and Deloitte. Currently, he serves as the Director of Financial Systems and Projects at the Department of Education in Victoria, where he leads the maintenance, development, and improvements to all aspects of the Department’s financial systems and projects.

Aside from his professional work, Fred Alale is also an active member of the African Australian community. He is the Co-Founder and Chair of the African Music and Cultural Festival, which is in its 10th year and attracts over 40,000 attendees to Melbourne’s Federation Square. He sits on the boards of several organizations, including Africa Day Australia Incorporated, and is a member of the Victorian African Communities Action Plan (VACAP) implementation committee.

In 2023, Fred was recognized for his significant service to the African communities in Victoria and appointed as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia. He was also added to the COVID-19 Honour Roll as part of the 2023 Australia Day Honours.

Fred is passionate about using his skills and experience to raise the profile of African Australians and inspire young people to achieve their full potential.
