Samara is a social worker who has worked across education, family services and Aboriginal community-controlled settings. At the Centre for Innovative Justice, she brings her strong interpersonal skills to conduct person-centered research, with a strong focus on the family violence experiences and criminalisation of children and young people. Samara coordinated the lived (and living) experience advisory group of the Centre’s Unsafe and Unseen project, which examined young people’s interrelated experiences of family violence and homelessness; evaluated an early intervention program for children using challenging and aggressive behaviours in the aftermath of family violence; and conducted a number of interviews with young people in Victoria’s youth justice system to better understand their transitional support needs. Outside of work, Samara volunteers her time for a number of First Nation’s led organisations, including Justice for Walker and the Gladys Elphick Committee.
