David Ironside is an experienced regulator, having spent over 30 years developing and managing elements of Australia’s biosecurity system.

Throughout his career, he has managed biosecurity operations and developed new digital systems for managing both imports and exports of agricultural products. He led several policy reform initiatives which have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of Australia’s agricultural regulatory systems, including an expansion of the export Authorised Officer model, which uses trained industry personnel to deliver regulatory functions. He has also led a significant program of reform for the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).

David holds qualifications in horticulture as well as a Masters in Public Administration.
