Dr Matthew West is a Wiradjuri man whose family come from the Nanima Mission near Wellington in Central West NSW. Since joining the NSW public service in 2021 he has played an active role in innovative policy approaches to returning land to the Aboriginal community and supporting their land use aspirations. He has previously worked in roles of community advocacy and completed a PhD in 2020 examining the impacts of diabetes on the Aboriginal community.
