Nidean Dickson is the Dean of Professional Teaching at Brigidine College. In her 10+ years as an educator, Nidean has had experience as a Pastoral Leader and a Curriculum Leader in all-female Catholic schools in Brisbane.
As part of Nidean’s role, she leads the development and application of the College Pedagogical Framework, supports staff in their Pedagogical Enhancement Plans , provides ongoing professional learning through a range of workshops and conferences, and leads the induction and early career teacher program at the College.
Recently, Nidean has led the introduction of Cultures of Thinking to the College, conducted action research working parties on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Coaching, and has introduced a weekly afternoon tea called, ‘PedagogTEA’ to engage staff in the ongoing conversation about pedagogy.
In addition, Nidean runs a bespoke extracurricular program for students and teachers called Suspend Judgement. Suspend Judgement is a Holocaust Education Program for students in Year 10-12 who want to engage further in their learning about the Holocaust. As an alumni of the Gandel Program at Yad Vashem in Israel from 2020, Nidean has been running the program at the College since then, and has developed a wider network with the Hebrew Congregation of Brisbane and was a member of the education advisory council for the Queensland Holocaust Museum and Education Centre that opened in July 2021.
Providing a holistic education, is at the centre of Nidean’s philosophy as a teacher and leader.
