Dr Michael Salter is the Professor of Criminology in the School of Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia. He is the Director Elect of Childlight UNSW, the Sydney arm of Childlight, the Global Child Safety Institute based at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Salter is an internationally recognised expert in child sexual abuse, gender-based violence and complex trauma, and the author of two books and over sixty papers in international journals and edited collections. He is the Chair of the Grace Tame Foundation, which is dedicated to public awareness and the prevention of child sexual abuse. Professor Salter is the immediate Past President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, the premier global scientific organisation for the study and treatment of complex trauma and dissociation. He sits on a number of government and non-government advisory committees, including the Advisory Group of the National Plan to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Their Children. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation, and Child Abuse Review.
