Sharon Deano  has occupied various leadership positions in the Australian Public Service over the last 18 years.  She recently joined the Victorian Public Service as a senior executive and is currently the Director of Compliance & Enforcement, Energy Division at the Essential Services Commission. She has significant experience in leading compliance and enforcement investigation teams at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission and the Essential Services Commission, Victoria. She has led several high-profile investigations which have resulted in ground breaking precedent and multi-million dollar penalties. Her enforcement  background is also complemented by her experience in leading the ACCC’s Data & Intelligence Branch which included the ACCC’s data team, legal technology services team, the Infocentre and the centralised intelligence team. In this role she oversaw the ACCC’s data strategy, the development of the ACCC’s AI policy and set up the ACCC’s first micro-data research team. While seconded at the ACNC, Sharon was tasked with finding opportunities to leverage AI to improve business processes and fast track investigation practices. She has helped teams understand the potential and limitations of data and technology to optimise its use in investigation contexts
