The launch of the APS CALD Strategy has made it clear that increasing CALD representation is a priority across government. With several departments and lead agencies expected to submit their plans by June 2025 to include evidence-based actions into their Diversity & Inclusion Strategies, much work is to be done to implement and reach targets of 15% & 24% CALD representation at the SES level over the next few years.
To get there, it is essential that government organisations strengthen their cultural awareness and capability, and build on their diversity, create inclusive recruitment, retention and progression processes. This inaugural summit on 19-20 March 2025 in Canberra will be a critical platform for public sector leaders from both Federal & State Departments to explore and adopt practical strategies to drive essential change, dismantle systemic barriers, biases, cultural glass ceilings and inequities for CALD employees.

This session addresses the challenging yet essential topic of race and racism, exploring how these discussions can sometimes evoke emotional responses that hinder genuine workplace inclusion. By focusing on the collective benefits of anti-racism, participants will gain the confidence to discuss race with nuance, build support for racial equity, and create actionable plans. Aimed at public sector professionals in leadership, legal, HR, diversity, and related roles, this session emphasises the shared vision of an equitable, cohesive society and practical strategies for fostering this vision in the workplace.

While unconscious bias is typically seen as attitudinal or cognitive orientation that often operates below the surface to shape how individuals perceive and interact with others, this workshop will show the systemic manifestations and impacts of unconscious bias. Through a blend of reflection, real-world examples, and evidence-based strategies, participants will learn how to identify and mitigate these biases in order to create a more equitable and inclusive work environment. This workshop emphasises self-awareness and equips attendees with actionable techniques for recognising and managing unconscious and racial bias
This workshop supports leaders, change-makers, and team members across all functions in recognizing and addressing unconscious and racial bias in their organisational processes, practices, policies and their teams. Participants will gain practical tools and insights to identify and mitigate biases that impact workplace interactions, decision-making, and team dynamics.

A fantastic summit to question what it is you think you know about the marginalised groups in society but also develop some really practical and useful approaches to becoming an accomplice.”
