What is Allyship?
Allyship is a way for leaders at all levels to show their support for the diverse communities that make up their teams. From women in leadership to LGBTQIA+ folks, First Nations, Cultural and Linguistically Diverse people and people with disability.
What do Allies do?
Allyship is about listening more than doing, it’s about knowledge more than action. Once you have taken in the diverse perspectives and challenges of these communities you will understand them more and be better equipped to support them at work. Taking time to understand their challenges is crucial to Allyship, and the best way to do this is hearing them first hand.
What are the benefits of Allyship?
Allies have a stronger sense of purpose in theory leadership and also foster greater team cohesion through enhanced trust. When your team members feel safe around you and each other, they will feel more comfortable sharing ideas, perceived risks, and point out problems before they become catastrophes. Fundamentally, Allyship boosts performance, creates better outcomes and maximises staff retention. Join us at the Building Allyship for Public Sector Leaders Summit to gain first hand accounts from a wide variety of diverse experiences as well as the insights and advice of leaders from across the public sector who have put Allyship into action!
