Cathy ran her first race when she was five and realised that she loved the way racing made her feel. After a string of medals and world championships, Cathy’s most notable achievement came in 2000 at the Olympic Games in Sydney. Her image was beamed into millions of homes around the world when she became the first competing athlete to be invited to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony. She then went on to win the gold medal in the 400m, realising a life-long dream. Cathy was awarded Australian of the year in 1998. An Australian icon, national treasure and household name, Cathy continues to inspire First Nations people in the media and through her philanthropic work supporting Indigenous children to experience their potential in school and beyond and realise their dreams.

The First Nations Leadership & Allyship Summit was incredibly valuable and really reinforced my passion and commitment to leadership in my work with community as a First Nations Woman”
First Nations Response
As a new employee of a Government Department, attending the First Nations Leadership and Allyship summit and listening to the speakers has inspired me to grow within the industry I am in, I am more determined than ever to become the best I can be!”
Department of Communities and Justice NSW
A deeply moving and transformative experience, and honestly I don’t think the words I’ve been able to put here really do the experience justice. I have a lot of very big feelings about the experience, but no real words seem to actually do those feelings and my learnings justice. Thank you for the opportunity. It was a privilege.”
