The 2nd First Nations Women in Leadership Summit held in Meanjin | Brisbane is an opportunity to gather amongst a community of First Nations women and be inspired by the shared stories of cultural knowledge, wisdom, and strength. Through storytelling, reflection, and connection this summit honours and celebrates the vital role First Nations women hold as carers, teachers, healers, and leaders in their workplaces, families, and communities, and serves as a vulnerable and safe space for women to come together, share and learn from one another.
Note: The use of the term “women” across the Summit is inclusive of all First Nations women who identify as women, including cisgender and transgender women. We acknowledge the under-representation of gender-diverse and non-binary people in leadership, which is also a result of gender inequality.
Hear the powerful stories of resilience & strength of First Nations women leading in their communities, families & workplaces
Reflect on the power of the knowledge held by First Nations women & the vital perspectives this knowledge brings to the roles women hold
Re-discover your ‘why’ & purpose & be empowered to elevate your individual & collective voice
Draw on the wisdom & strength of First Nations matriarchs & generations of women in leadership
Be inspired by the unique strengths, perspectives & visions of young women & the next generation of women’s voices

This session is an opportunity to meet, share experiences and make important connections with attendees beyond your table.
Cathy ran her first race when she was five and realised that she loved the way racing made her feel. After a string of medals and world championships, Cathy’s most notable achievement came in 2000 at the Olympic Games in Sydney. Her image was beamed into millions of homes around the world when she became the first competing athlete to be invited to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony.
She then went on to win the gold medal in the 400m, realising a life-long dream. An Australian icon, national treasure and household name, Cathy continues to inspire First Nations people in the media
and through her philanthropic work, supporting Indigenous children to experience their potential in school and beyond and realise their dreams. In this exclusive fireside yarn, Cathy will share key insights from her life in the limelight and tips for how you can perform at your best.
