Ending Coercive Control & Family Violence WA

Transforming system responses to strengthen accountability and safety outcomes

Building a coordinated response to coercive control and family violence

The Ending Coercive Control and Family Violence WA Conference comes at a critical time as systems across justice, health and community services are being challenged to move beyond incident-based responses and properly recognise patterns of coercive control. Despite growing policy reform, services continue to miss psychological abuse, post-separation escalation, financial entrapment and tech-facilitated control with significant risks of misidentification and uneven outcomes, particularly for First Nations women and children.

This conference is a must-attend for attendees to explore what is failing in current systems and what it will take to build a genuinely coordinated, culturally safe and trauma-informed response across courts, policing, DFV, housing and child protection. Through cross-sector panels, lived experience voices and practical case-based discussions, the conference will focus on shifting from fragmented responses to integrated systems that can identify and respond to coercive control in practice.

Perception Is OUR Truth: Cultural navigation, healing & responding to family & domestic violence

Led by respected First Nations educator and Cultural Navigator Aunty Sharon Wood-Kenney, this immersive and interactive workshop invites delegates on a powerful journey of cultural reflection, truth-telling, and understanding. Grounded in storytelling, lived experience, and deep listening, the session creates space to explore the impacts of intergenerational trauma, systemic disadvantage, and family and domestic violence through a culturally informed lens.

Drawing on Sharon’s established “Perception Is OUR Truth” framework, delegates will be encouraged to unlearn assumptions, sit with discomfort, and deepen their understanding of culture, healing, and community responsibility. The workshop will explore how culturally safe, trauma-informed approaches can strengthen responses to family and domestic violence while supporting healing, belonging, and equity for First Nations peoples and communities.
